Reverse Engineering
Recreate suitable broken, obsolete, unavailable or expensive-to-replace components from an original part, dimensions, drawings or photographs. Designs can also be modified or improved where practical.
Explore reverse engineeringProfessional 3D printing, reverse engineering, CAD design, rapid prototyping and repeat batch production — backed by more than 30 years of engineering and manufacturing experience.
3D printing is at the core of what we do. We manufacture practical, functional components for customers who need a prototype, replacement part, custom item or repeat production batch.
We can work from an existing CAD or STL file, a sketch, dimensions, photographs or an original component. Where design work is needed, we can create or reverse engineer the geometry before manufacture.
Explore 3D printing servicesYou do not need a finished drawing or CAD model. We can start with the existing component, measurements, photographs, sketches or simply the problem you are trying to solve.

Learn moreProduce functional 3D printed parts and physical prototypes quickly so dimensions, fit and functionality can be assessed before final production.
Learn moreOne-off components and repeat 3D printed batch production without conventional mould tooling costs.
Learn moreBroken component? Discontinued part? Replacement priced far beyond what seems sensible? Something that almost works but needs modifying? Send us photographs, measurements, a sketch or the original part and we can assess a practical route forward.
Tell us what you needEngineering projects should be clear and practical. We keep the process simple, with decisions based on how the part will actually be used.
Start a conversationShare the original component, photos, dimensions, sketch or idea and explain what the finished part must do.
We create the CAD model and consider geometry, material, tolerances, orientation and manufacturing requirements.
A prototype can be produced to check fit and function. Changes are incorporated before final production.
Once agreed, we manufacture the finished part — from a one-off through to repeat batches.
Our own product range follows the same process we use for engineering work: identify the problem, develop the geometry, prototype, refine and manufacture.
Years of engineering design and manufacturing experience brought into a modern, agile design and production business.
Marischal Design is a family-run 3D printing, engineering design and manufacturing business based in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire. We combine decades of practical engineering experience with modern CAD and additive manufacturing to develop useful products and solve real-world problems.
We are deliberately small and hands-on. That means direct communication, sensible engineering decisions and the flexibility to work on one-off components, prototypes and batch production.
More about Marischal DesignSend photographs, measurements, a sketch, CAD file or details of the component you need. We’ll review the requirement and tell you what looks practical.
