Our approach

Start with the function. Build the design around it.

Marischal Design was created to combine long-standing engineering experience with professional 3D printing, modern CAD and additive manufacturing.

We design and 3D print our own range of practical products, while also helping customers recreate parts, develop concepts, prototype ideas and produce functional components in repeat batches.

Being a small business is an advantage for the type of work we do. The person discussing the requirement is closely involved in how the part is designed and manufactured.

How we think

Practical engineering principles.

The aim is not to make a part complicated. The aim is to make it work, make it manufacturable and make it appropriate for the job.

01

Function first

Design decisions are driven by what the component needs to do in real use.

02

Design for manufacture

Geometry is developed around the material and process rather than treated as an afterthought.

03

Iterate where needed

Prototyping allows fit and function to be checked before committing to the final design.

04

Keep communication direct

Clear technical conversations and realistic expectations from the start of the project.
